Which DroidDeck APK to download

Open the latest release and scroll to Assets. You will see four APK files of the same size and one checksum file:

FilePackage nameWho it is for
DroidDeck-0.4.0.apkcom.droiddeck.launcherMost people. The standard DroidDeck APK.
DroidDeck-0.4.0-pubg.apkcom.tencent.igPhones that unlock their game or performance mode only for known game package names.
DroidDeck-0.4.0-antutu.apkcom.antutu.benchmark.fullPhones that unlock full performance only for benchmark apps.
DroidDeck-0.4.0-ludashi.apkcom.ludashi.benchmarkSame idea, using another benchmark’s package name.
SHA256SUMS.txt–Checksums for verifying the four files.

The four DroidDeck APK files contain the same app. According to the project’s release tooling, only the package name in the manifest is changed, because some phones give their performance modes only to apps with certain names. Android treats each one as a separate app: they install side by side and each keeps its own data.

Recommendation: download the standard DroidDeck APK first. Try one of the others only if your phone is holding performance back and you know it boosts specific apps. If you switch, remember that your setup and installed runtime do not carry over, because Android sees a different app.

How to download the DroidDeck APK

  1. Go to the DroidDeck releases page on GitHub.
  2. Find the newest release that is a plain version number, such as 0.4.0. Tags that start with other words are build components, not the app.
  3. Open Assets and tap DroidDeck-0.4.0.apk.
  4. When the download finishes, open the file and allow your browser or file manager to install apps if Android asks.
  5. Continue with the DroidDeck install guide.

How to check your DroidDeck APK is genuine

Every release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt file. It lists a SHA-256 checksum for each DroidDeck APK. If the checksum of your file matches, the file is exactly what the project published.

  1. Download SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release.
  2. Compute the checksum of your APK. On a computer: sha256sum DroidDeck-0.4.0.apk on Linux, shasum -a 256 DroidDeck-0.4.0.apk on macOS, or certutil -hashfile DroidDeck-0.4.0.apk SHA256 on Windows.
  3. Compare the result with the line for that file in SHA256SUMS.txt. They must be identical.

This check only means something for files from the official page. A DroidDeck APK from another website has no checksum you can trust, which is one reason the developers tell users not to download from sites that claim to be them.

Older builds numbered 0.1.x were published from a contributor’s personal repository before the project moved to the Droid-Deck organisation. Use the current repository for anything new.

After the DroidDeck APK is installed

Installing the DroidDeck APK is the short part. On first run the app installs its Linux runtime, which needs about 3 GB. Then you press Play, sign in to Steam, and Steam itself downloads. One Android setting, “Restrict child processes”, must be turned off first or Steam will not start. The install guide walks through it, and the devices page tells you whether your phone’s GPU is supported before you spend the storage.
